Some morphologi, eclogical, and archeological characteristics of Manglietia dandyi Gagnep in Son La, Lao Cai province

Manglietia dandyi is a native tree with high economic value. Research on morphological, ecological and phenological features of the treeplay an key important role in determination of the characteristics of the species, it’s distribution and the time of seed collection for effective propagation and planting. Research results show that Manglietia dandyi is a large wood species withround and straight trunk, maximum height of 30 m and diameter of up to 1 m; young branches and shoots are covered with rust wooly hairs; simple leaves is at the tips of branches, young buds are covered with yellow-brown hairs, the backside of leaves are gray and covered with yellow-brown hairs, and stipule is deciduous; the tree has white or pale green bisexual flower, growing at the tip of branches, with 9 -12 corolla petalstwisted in 3 rings, flowering time from April to May; fruit type of Manglietia dandyi is a legume with ovate shape, stalk from 2 to 4.5 cm long covered with yellow hairs, the fruit skin is lumpy and it turns into brown and woody as rippen; fruit ripening is from about September to October, focusing on from September 15 to October 15 every year. The distribution of the tree is in the area of tropical monsoon climate, particular in the restored secondary forest with canopy cover 0.3 - 0.6, located at the altitude from 650 - 1250 m, with moist soil closed to characteristic ofthe ones covered with forest. Capable of planting pure species and planting for forest enrichment, shade-loving plants in the small stage, light -loving plants in the adult stage
