RESPONSIBILITIES OF MANGROVE TREES SPECIES TO ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE IN THE COASTAL AREA OF CAN GIO, HO CHI MINH CITY

SUMMARY
Plant distributions, growth and development are strongly impacted by the environmental factors. In this study, we studied the responses of some mangrove tree species in the coastal areas in Can Gio, Ho Chi Minh City to the thickness of sediment. This study introduces the impact of environment on the growth of mangrove tree species in the coastal area of Can Gio in Ho Chi Minh City. In this study, we analyzed the response of some mangrove tree species to some environmental factors such as: the thickness of the sediment, the depth of inundation, the time of discharge of wastewater and the salinity of the water. The study was carried out on 10 mangrove tree species that are widely distributed in the coastal region..., Sediment thickness, depth of inundation, wastewater discharge time and water salinity were divided into 5, 5, 6 and 9 levels, respectively. At each level, each tree species was planted with 50 trees per 50m2 and repeated three times. Results showed that the growth of all of tenth mangrove populations of increases with the increase of sediment thickness and are well-developed at 0.5 to 2.5 m. in depth of inundation. The optimal salinity for the growth of Sonneratia caseolaris, Sonneratia alba, Ceriops tagal, Nypa fruticans, Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora apiculata, Avicennia marina, Avicennia officinalis, Avicennia alba, Bruguiera paviflora were 15.0; 16.7; 19.2; 6.2; 18.7; 17.3; 22.0; 19.4; 19.8 and 19.7‰, respectively
