INITIAL RESEARCH RESULT ON CHEMICAL COMPONENT OF ALEURITES MOLUCCANA SEED OIL

Aleurites moluccana (Vietnamese name is Lai) is a valuable big tree which distributed from North to
Central of Vietnam. A. moluccana is a multipurpose tree. Its seed provides an ideal source of fat oil
with high content of unsaturated fatty acides. Seed cake cound be used for livestock feeding. Leaves,
flowers, resin from young branches could also be used in medicine and wood for furniture.
This paper is dealing with the chemical composition and some physicochemical characteristics of the
oil extracted from the seeds of Aleurites moluccana. The fatty acides content is up to 91%. The main
unsaturated fatty acides are linoleic acide (22 - 41%), linolenic acide (11 - 29%), oleic acide (14 -40%). The qualitative analysis of the seed indicate the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids
compounds. These are promising food sources that rich in n-3 unsaturated fatty acides, beneficial to
health
