Research on propagation of Calophyllum inophyllum L. utilizing grafting techniques
Keywords:

Calophyllum inophyllum is a pantropical species tree found in 38 countries
stretching from East Africa to Southeast Asia, Oceania and the South
Pacific. Calophyllum inophyllum is one of the multi-purposes and
economically valuable trees in tropical coastal areas, C. inophyllum is often
planted as a roadside tree to provide shade and as wind breaks with its large
canopy; besides, this wood can also be used in shipbuilding. Another
important value of the C. inophyllum is the supply of oil pressed from the
fruit used in medicine. Research on asexual propagation for good genotypes
is significant in the development of this multi-purpose plant. However, so
far there has not been any specific research on breeding methods in our
country. The objective of the study was to determine the best grafting and
seasoning method in the propagation of C. inophyllum. Research on 3
methods of grafting cleft, splice and budding showed that budding grafting
method is the best method for grafting C. inophyllum with survival rate of
57%, budding rate of 54% and grafted buds height reaches 4.5 cm after 60
days of grafting. Grafting season had a significant effect on survival rate
and budding rate of C. inophyllum L. grafted shoots (P-value < 0.001).
Grafting in the dry season gave better results with a survival rate of 63.8%,
budding rate of 60.5% and grafted buds height reaches 11.2 cm.
