Research on physiological characteristics of seeds and propagation techniques of Sandoricum indicum Cav. from seed

Abstract

This paper presents the results of research on physiological characteristics
of seeds and propagation techniques of Sandoricum indicum Cav. from
seeds. In terms of seed physiology: fruit size is 40.2 mm wide and 48.6 mm
long, the weight of 1,000 fruits is 47.67 kg, 1 fruit has 3 to 5 seeds; medium
size of seed attains 24.8 mm, 13.6 mm, 10.7 mm in length, width and
thickness respectively; the heaviness of 1,000 seeds weighs 1,829 g; with
the moisture content of seed of 43.2%, belongs to high humidity group,
seeds lose their germination quickly; The best treatment for germination is
soaking in normal water (22
o
C) in 24 hours for the germination rate of
newly harvested seeds of 97.8% and germination energy of 35.5%, the
germination period spans 8 - 10 days; Seed storage in room with nomal
temperature (22 - 270 C) to be the best method to preserve seeds with
maximum period of 5 months. Research outcome of sowing seedlings in PE
bags size of 17 cm  22 cm after 11 months with a mixture of substrate
48% soil A layer + 2% Gianh river microbial fertilizer + 50% sawdust
without covering the light provides the best result, reaching 12.3 mm of
stump diameter, 119.7 cm of tree height and a survival rate of 91.6%.
