SELECTION RESULTS OF DOMINANT TREES FOR Keteleeria evelyniana Mast, Paramichelia baillonii (Pierre) S. Y. Hu, AND Canarium tramdenum Dai and Ykovl IN SONLA PROVINCE

Abstract

The article presents some results of the project "Establishing a forestry plant seed source in Son La province in 2023." The study selected three natural forest stands that met the standards for selecting dominant trees: Keteleeria evelyniana Mast (3 ha) in group 6, Chieng Sinh ward, Son La city; Paramichelia baillonii (Pierre) S. Y. Hu (2 ha) in Pha Lu village, Muong E commune, Thuan Chau district; and Canarium tramdenum Dai & Ykovl (2 ha) in Lun village, Hua La commune, Son La city. Field investigation method was applied through standard plots of 2,000 m² to survey and analyze growth indicators. The criteria for selecting dominant trees followed the TCVN 8755:2017 standard. As a result, 50 dominant trees were selected, including 15 Keteleeria evelyniana trees Mast (diameter: 43.3 – 79.6 cm, stand height: 16.5 – 23 m, canopy base height: 9 – 13 m), 15 Paramichelia baillonii (Pierre) S. Y. Hu trees (diameter: 21.3 – 34.4 cm, stand height: 14 – 18 m, canopy base height: 8 – 12 m), and 20 Canarium tramdenum Dai & Ykovl trees (diameter: 31.2 – 71.3 cm, stand height: 17 – 24 m, canopy base height: 9 – 15 m). The dominant trees scored 13 – 15 points in criteria such as stem straightness, branch size and overall health.
