Species composition, harmful characteristics and behavior of some Bat Do bamboo pests in Tran Yen district, Yen Bai provin

Abstract

The composition of Bat do bamboo shoots pest in Tran Yen district, Yen Bai
province recorded 12 species, belonging to 10 families and 05 orders. Orders of
Lepidoptera recorded 05 families, 05 species; Hemiptera with 02 families, 03
species. Orthoptera, Coleoptera and Diptera all have 01 family and represent the
number of species as 02, 01 and 01 species. The average pest prevalence of pests
ranged from 5.8 - 20.6% and the average level of damage ranged from 0.05 -
0.93 (both mildly). Notobitus meleagrisdamage mainly in bamboo shoots. The
position of male when mating with female is usually near the young tip of
bamboo shoot. Females usually lay eggs on the underside of leaves or on shoots
(after supplementation) with numbers from 10 to 22 eggs; The eggs are laid in
two staggered rows. Larva of Hieroglyphus tonkinensis usually live in
concentration, the time from adult of male and female to layingthe first nest
varies from 5 - 8 days, throughout the life cycle of the femaleadult mate 1 - 3
times and lay from 1 to 4 eggs nest; Each nest usually has between 28 and 41
eggs. Cyrtotrachelus longimanus species infestation on bamboo shoots, the
bamboo shoots from 1.2 to 1.7 m in height are often severely damaged. Adults
use a hose to chisel on bamboo shoots and then lay eggs in that area. Young
larva, when hatching, chisel up from under the base of bamboo shoots. When
they reach maturity, them create a hole about 1 cm wide to burrow into the
ground and pupa
