Artocarpus chama Buchanan-Hamilton is an indigenous tree with high economic value and potential in large-sized timber plantation in some Northern mountainous provinces, Vietnam. The research findings are: i) Artocarpus chama Buchanan-Hamilton is mainly found in three forest types which are TXG, TXB and TXN; ii) Its density ranges from 12 to 40 trees/ha, average diameter D1,3 is from 24.2 to 43.6 cm, average total height Hvn is from 10.4 to 20 m, timber reserves range from 0.8 to 5 m3/ha, 100% of Artocarpus chama Buchanan-Hamilton are of quality A; iii) Among 5 dominant plant assemblages in the forest types, Artocarpus chama Buchanan-Hamilton is found in 4 plant assemblages; iv) The number of individuals in the canopy position at level 4 and 5 in the researched forest stands account for highest percentage 64.2% of the total number of trees at 5 levels of canopy position. This result shows that, at the adult stage, Artocarpus chama Buchanan-Hamilton is heliophytes. The growth values of Artocarpus chama Buchanan-Hamilton also tend to increase gradually from the canopy position level 2 to 5. v) The density of regenerative trees of the forest types where the Artocarpus chama Buchanan-Hamilton distributed in the two studied provinces varies considerably, from 3.416 trees/ha (TXN in Son La province) to 5.648 trees/ha (TXG in Lao Cai province), the growth of regenerated trees in forest types has an average diameter of 2.3 to 2.6 cm and an average height of 3.2 to 3.8 m;
vi) Regenerated Artocarpus chama Buchanan-Hamilton are found in 5/6 studied sites (except for TXB in Lao Cai province) with a density of regenerated trees ranging from 16 - 35 trees/ha. The avarage diameter of regenerated Artocarpus chama Buchanan-Hamilton ranges from 1.5 to 3.5 cm, average height from 1.3 to 4.2 m; vii) Height of regenerated Artocarpus chama Buchanan-Hamilton is less than 1 m, accounts for 75 - 89.3% (average percentage is 84.2%), the number of trees with height from 1 - 6m accounts for 10.7 - 25.0% (average percentage is 15.8%). From the research results, Artocarpus chama Buchanan-Hamilton is shown that jackfruit is a light-loving tree, but it can be used for mixed afforestation or for forest enrichment and forest improvement.
