Shot hole borer beetle attacks the over three - year - old Acacia mangium and acacia hybrid plantations in Yen Binh and Tran Yen district of Yen Bai province. This ambrosia beetle is named Euwallacea fornicatus Eichhoff, belonging to the Coleoptera and Scolytidae family. The four stages of this species are an egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The adult beetles chew out tunnels in the trunk, at that time they cultivate fungi in the galleries. The amount of average time to complete life cycle is 44.2 days in an average temperature of 26oC, humidity 80% under the conditional laboratory experiment. The average period time of the adult beetle is about 5.2 days; eggs hatch in about 8.9 days, the average larval period last 20.1 days and the pupation time is 10.0 days. Preventing shot hole borer beetle by using the Delfin 32WG (Bacillus thuringiensis) and Muskardin (Beauveriabassiana) has high efficiency with 100% mortality after seven days of spraying in the lab.
