EFFECTS OF GRAFTING SEASON AND ROOTSTOCK CRITERIA ON SURVIVAL AND GROWTH OF GRAFTED Michelia tonkinensis A.Chev. AT THE NURSERY STAGE

This study was conducted to evaluate the influence of grafting season and rootstock criteria on the survival and growth of grafted Michelia tonkinensis A.Chev. at the nursery stage in Bac Giang province (now Bac Ninh province). The results showed that grafting season and rootstock criteria significantly affected the growth of grafted trees in terms of height, scion length, number of leaves per scion, and the percentage of grafted trees meeting the standards for transplanting. The best time for grafting Michelia tonkinensis A.Chev. is the spring season (February 20th - March 20th) or can be grafted in the winter-spring season (December 20th - January 20th) of the following year. The rootstock diameter should be at least 0.7 cm. The minimum time for trees to reach transplanting standards is 6 months, and should not exceed 9 months after grafting.
