Michelia tonkinensis A.Chev. had not been systematically planted in Lao Cai province. There were a few concentrated models in some districts, but most of the species were dispersed in household gardens without controlled seedling sources. People hardly conducted tending or fertilization during the plantation process. Michelia tonkinensis trees that had harvested fruit were all part of the dispersed planting models in household gardens and had a growing period of mostly 20 years or more. Seed collection, processing and preservation were applied according to people's experience. Results of analysis and comparison of essential oil content and composition of volatile substances in Michelia tonkinensis seed samples in Lao Cai province when compared with Hoa Binh and Phu Tho provinces show that the quality of essential oil among these provinces was not significantly different. Michelia tonkinensis grown in Lao Cai had a fairly wide distribution range, suitable for many different types of terrain, climate, and soil conditions. Concentrated monoculture planting models were mostly at ages 2 to 13 with growth indicators relatively uniform and stable. However, the fact that households hardly apply fertilizer during the planting and tending process has made its growth and development rate relatively slow. In general, Lao Cai province had great conditions and potential for planting and developing Michelia tonkinensis A.Chev. However, the lack of investment in systematic research as well as lack of proper attention is a huge obstacle to the development of this plant locally. Therefore, increasing the number of tending times as well as applying fertilizer is very necessary to ensure the development of Michelia tonkinensis A.Chev. planting models in Lao Cai province in the future.
