Research on selection of prospects indigenous tree species for afforestation in Quang Ninh

Abstract

Research results on selecting indigenous species with potential for afforestation in Quang Ninh have established set of criteria including 3 main groups of criteria with a total of 16 indicators. Each indicator is divided into 2 - 3 levels with different points depending on the degree of influence of that indicator on the ability of the species to plant for timber plantaion in Quang Ninh province. Based on the set of criteria, the 10 most promising indigenous broadleaf species for timber plantation in Quang Ninh have a total of 53 - 68 points with the highest point, ranked in order of priority, including species: Michelia mediocris, Castanopsis cerebrina, Cinnamomum balansae, Canarium album, Chukrasia tabularis, Manglietia glauca, Prunus arborea, Diptercarpus retusus, Lithocarpus ducampii and Erythrofloeum fordii. In addition, on the basis of inheritance of the documents, the results have identified 3 more tree species groups with a total of 22 species that can be used for planting in Quang Ninh, including: indigenous and multi-purpose trees include 13 species; The group of exotic broadleaf trees that can be planted for timber supply includes 2 species and the group of conifers and fast growing trees that can be planted for timber supply in Quang Ninh are 7 specie
