CHARACTERISTICS OF STRUCTURE AND BIODIVERSITY OF POOR EVERGREEN BROADLEAF NATURAL PRODUCTION FORESTS IN KBANG, GIA LAI PROVINCE

This study was conducted to evaluate the structural characteristics and biodiversity of poor evergreen broadleaf natural production forests in Kbang, Gia Lai province. Temporary random standard plots with an area of 2,500 m² were used to collect data on tree layers, intermediate trees, and regeneration. Results showed that the studied forests have a multi-layered structure with tree density ranging 76 - 636 trees/ha, average diameter 11.6 - 24.5 cm, and average height 10.9 - 13.5 m. Wood volume reached 53.5 - 69.5 m³/ha, biomass 37.8 - 51.0 tons/ha. Species composition is diverse with 11 - 35 species in the tree layer, Shannon index 2.05 - 3.05. The results also showed clear differences between two different elevation zones (less than and higher than 500 m above sea level) in terms of tree density, regeneration quality, and regeneration origin. The results provide scientific basis for sustainable management of natural forests in the Central Highlands region.
