Diospyros mun A.Chev. ex Lecomte is an indigenous tree species that
produces high value timber, often grows in mixed broad-leaved forest. The fruiting cycle is irregular and the germination capacity of the seed decreases quickly. Therefore, study on physiological characteristics and seed storage methods are necessary to extend seed storage capacity. Research results show that mean weight of a seed is 163mg, one kilogam seed can range from 5695-6748 seeds, 6123 seed on the average, seeds started germinating 6 days after sowing and germination rate reached the highest on the 12th day while after 20 days, only few seeds germinated. When the moisture content of seeds was reduced from 22% to 15%, seed germination rates decreased from 65% to 30,5% and no seed germinated when seed moisture content was reduced to 4%. Temperature for seed germination was best at
20 - 25°C or room temperature. Seed can be stored for more than 6 months at 10°C and 18% moisture content.
