Total shrimp framing area in the Northern coastal provinces (2011) was
about 37.728ha, of which the total fallow shrimp farming area was 17.594
ha. Mangrove plantation results in the fallow shrimp farmings at Dong Rui
commune, Tien Yen district, Quang Ninh province showed that Rhizophora
stylosa Griff, Kandelia abovata, Avicennia marina, had the high survival
rate and grew well. Therefore, the three species should be used for mangrove plantation in Quang Ninh province. Survival and growth rate of mangroves planted by sapling with pots were higher 10 - 20% than mangroves planted by propagule
